Dentures are available at our Agenskalna Dental Clinic. They are a removable set of artificial teeth – either complete or partial – made to replace natural teeth you have lost, and are used to restore appearance and oral functions.
Dentures are more comfortable and natural looking than ever before and, unless you tell someone that you’re wearing dentures, they probably won’t even know. Once made and fitted, these custom-made replacements are easily put in and taken out of your mouth by you, giving you the flexibility to wear them at times that suit you.
Complete dentures are used when all teeth needing replacing on you upper jaw, lower jaw, or both. Partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain, and fit in amongst and around those remaining teeth. Metallic dentures will be more precise and more durable.
Metallic
dentures differ from other types of dentures in the way that the plastic
(acrylic) base is replaced by a metal base.
That makes them more precise and more durable, than other types.
Complete dentures are held in place with a flesh coloured acrylic base that fits snugly over your gums. Partial dentures rest on a framework that attaches to your remaining teeth. Alternatives to partial dentures are bridges and implants. We can advise on the recommended course of action after assessing your teeth and your preferences.
Several visits to our dental clinic will be required for the fitting of and checking up of your dentures. Due to normal wear and tear, and also because, as you age, your mouth shape will naturally alter, realignments and replacements will be required. 6-12 month return visits are recommended.
Whilst developments in dentures have made them more comfortable than
previously, they won’t feel exactly the same as natural teeth, and will
take some getting used to. Eating and speaking with dentures may feel
awkward for the first few weeks, but over time you’ll adjust to them and
will be able to eat and speak as normal.
Looking after dentures is straightforward. The key things to do are to always handle them with care, to clean them daily. They are to be worn twenty-four hours.
